My 1976 German import Kombi "Betsy'', Fuel Injected Kombi, with Original Texas Instrument Air Conditioner and a Pop-top, is up for sale. I purchased this Kombi 1987-88 as an 8 Seater Bus and is registered as so, The Bench Seats and Original Front Seats are in good condition, However please note these were not latex rubber sponge of 70's cars, these were a coconut fibre with backing, I've inserted better backing on the bench seats and front seats. It has taken the family on many trips, including all the way to Daintree Forest, QLD. The Fuel injection is FANTASTIC, I love it, because of its benefits and simple Bosch system, to diagnose it, all that is required, is an Ohmmeter a screwdriver style Test lamp, fuel pressure test is also simple, this fuel injection system is sold used for as much as $3000, just saying. During the period 1988 to 1994 I changed parts extensively. 1- Gearbox all Synchros, main bearing was replaced with new parts, the Gear oil, was changed on a regular basis, I placed a strong magnet on the gear box to catch fine metal that occurs from normal use. 2- Engine oil was changed every 5000kms Penrite mineral oil (although now I recommend full synthetic 10-50, Synthetic oils are far superior, the oil at the molecular level naturally sticks to the cylinders, pistons, rings 3-wheel bearings changed, all wheels inner & outer 4- At 170,000 km Engine was refurbished with new, cylinders Pistons (in hind Site it was extravagant and a waste of money current Odometer is 55,355 km so all in all the engine has clocked 85,355 km 5- it had a Valve saver kit, using Morrey's from 89 to 97. 6- a higher capacity add-on oil reservoir sump, that sits in the airflow for added cooling, the pop-top was added without cutting away the reinforcing roof arch, it doesn't need removing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What it requires 1- a Fuel tank, as rust has ruined the current one, attempting to clean it failed, all rust was captured by a triple filtration, first filter glass bowl superfine mesh with magnets, followed by 2 standard EFI fuel filters, 2-A new Alternator 3-A good oil cooler with fan 4-Going over the breaks, master and wheel cylinders --------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are numerous benefits to converting your air-cooled VW to EFI. These include, but are not limited to: 1-Increased power 2-Increased low end torque 3-Improved throttle response 4-Improved fuel economy 5-Improved driveability 6-Perfect cold starting 7-Smoother running engine 8-Engine does not go out of tune between services 9-ECU learning (tune is refined as you drive) 10-Boost control (turbocharged cars) 13-Increased engine safety in hot weather 14-Customisable engine limits 15-Engine protection. Pictures of Texas Instruments air conditioner are available by email, Q and A are welcome by email.
